For stage performances we recommend an audience of at least 40. If you are expecting to have an audience of more than 500 people, please call us to discuss a few options. For very large crowds (over 500) we may need to discuss additional technical requirements ie. additional sound equipment. The largest audience John has performed for numbered over 3,000 people.
Yes and No. We have hours of material to choose from and as such, we tailor the material toward every specific audience. Of course, we offer a family friendly show that is appropriate for all ages, although we strongly recommend that the children in the audience be at least five years of age.
In addition, we offer a show that is specifically for adults. We call this the adult show not because it is off-color, but because the material is far more sophisticated. This show is very appropriate for nightclubs, colleges and corporate events. Occasionally, there could be a slightly edgy reference or double entendre within John's material at these shows, but certainly nothing to the extent that would be bleeped out if it were to air on television.
If you are going to have some younger children in attendance we recommend that you have them sit several rows back with their parents. If younger children are sitting in front, some of the tricks in the show may scare them, or if they have a tendency to wander they could disrupt the show or possibly be injured by some of the equipment on stage or in the performance area.
Actually no, not always. From our experience we have found that some of the content of our show, even though it is a "Rated-G" show, occasionally does not conform with the regulations of certain religious groups. We have the utmost respect for all faiths and would rather recommend another type of entertainment than risk presenting a show containing material that would be inappropriate. Click here for a listing of show content that may be considered questionable to some groups.
Set up time does depend on the scale of the show that you would like us to present. Generally we need between 1-2 hours to set up for a stage performance.
If you need to change the start time of the show please contact us at least 24 hours prior to the start of the show and we will do our best to accommodate you. Since we calculate our arrival time based on the start time of the show and the amount of time it takes to set up our equipment, we may not be able to accommodate your request if it is made an hour or two before the show is scheduled to begin.
Not always - although the use of a stage always enhances the performance. In most cases we are able to work with whatever type of lighting is available to us and either work with whatever sound system is available or use our own system.
Although we don't need any help backstage, we have found that the show quality is greatly enhanced when there are two volunteers in the audience stationed at the far sides of the house close to the stage. These volunteers (that we
have affectionately dubbed "lifesavers", make sure that all the children in the audience maintain a safe distance and do nothing to interrupt the performance. In addition, these special monitors help ensure that no one tries to gain access to the stage area
either before or after the performances, which not only helps protect our equipment from damage, but more importantly, protects anyone from getting injured from handling our equipment.
Due to copyright restrictions we do not allow any audio or video recordings of our live performances. Besides the obvious copyright issues, keep in mind that since a large number of our performances are for family audiences, you may think you are video taping your child - but in reality you are also taping other people's children without their permission. Unfortunately, in this day and age we also have to worry about videos being posted on the internet. We have already had to contact internet sites such as You Tube to remove videos taken at our performances without permission.
We do allow flash photography for personal use or "family memories". If your event has hired a photographer, we ask that John be given a copy of the photographs taken for his use, and that they are not to be used in any advertising without written permission from John.
The best answer we can give to that question is that we will try. Please let us know who you would like to help at least 15-20 minutes before the show begins. Keep in mind that not everyone is comfortable actually being on stage - even if they seem like they would be under day-to-day conditions. If we feel that we will risk embarrassing or making the person you've suggested too uncomfortable we may opt to select another volunteer.
Sure - that would be very nice - we would love to meet them. However, we ask that we be given at least 10-15 minutes alone after each performance to clear the stage of our equipment since some of it does have sharp edges and could be a safety hazard if mishandled.
Occasionally this does happen if it has been arranged when the performance was originally booked - but only for small groups of less than 50 people. We have found that making balloons for a group that involves more than 50 people can quickly become chaotic and unsafe. Unfortunately, we have even been witness to people fist fighting in their attempts to procure some of the balloons.
For large groups we do offer an option of having a high number of balloon sculptures completed before the show begins so that they can be distributed by volunteers as everyone leaves.
Thank you for offering, but in most cases that is not necessary. I cannot eat prior to a performance. Much like the way your Mom may have warned you to wait an hour after a meal before swimming, if I do eat just before a show I can get pain in my side from the special breathing required to blow up balloons. Jen and I will occasionally ask for meals to be provided after a show if we are performing late at night in an area that does not have 24-hour restaurants available. That being stated, we certainly wouldn't turn down an offer of water or a cold soda.
